Live in a residence hall with other incoming first-year students, enroll in two 3-credit College classes, and attend events that will introduce you to many of UVA’s student support services.

The program offers incoming first-year students in the College of Arts & Sciences the opportunity to get a head start at UVA by earning six credits during the summer before your first semester.
What's more, it's free! The College covers all university charges associated with participation in HGR programs, including tuition, room and board.
Applications will be accepted starting April 1. You are eligible to apply for HGR as soon as you have accepted UVA's offer of admission and acquired your university email address and Netbadge credentials (see the New Student IT Checklist for details).
Participants will be chosen on a rolling basis, with notifications sent by email throughout the month of May.
