Hoos Getting Ready offers incoming first-year students the opportunity to get a head start at UVA by earning one to six credits the summer before matriculation. Choose from one of three options!

Whether you are ready to dive into an intensive residential experience or prefer to join us online, we have an option to help prepare you for academics in the College!

We look forward to welcoming you this summer to the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Virginia!

Applications will open on Friday, March 31 and close on Friday, May 12. You will be notified of whether or not you are accepted into one of the programs on or around May 24.

You & UVA Residential

Experience life on Grounds! Live in a residence hall with other incoming first-year students, enroll in two 3-credit College classes, and attend events that will introduce you to many of UVA’s student support services.

Take your first College seminar! Enroll in a 3-credit class that engages topics related to identity and college while also meeting other incoming first-year students virtually and learning about UVA resources.

Jump Start Online

Earn your first credit while still at home. Enroll in this course to engage with peers and learn about academic strategies and resources that will help you make the leap to the College.

Looking for information on academic strategies and student services without the commitment of a class? As an incoming first-year student in the College, you will automatically be given access to Spark!, a collection of self-paced, online workshops covering concepts, skills, and resources that will be helpful as you prepare to start college!

Once you accept your offer of admission, you will receive more information on access to Spark!
