Program Description
Hoos Getting Ready offers incoming first-year students in the College of Arts & Sciences the opportunity to get a head start at UVA by earning three or six credits during the summer before matriculation.
Whether you are ready to dive into an intensive residential experience or prefer to join us online, we have an option to help prepare you for seamless transition to college.
What's more, it's free! The College covers all university charges associated with participation in HGR programs.

You are eligible to apply for HGR as soon as you have accepted UVA's offer of admission and acquired your university email address and Netbadge credentials (see the New Student IT Checklist for details).
Participants will be chosen on a rolling basis, with notifications sent by email throughout the month of May.
Looking for information on academic strategies and student services without the commitment of a class? As an incoming first-year student in the College, you will automatically be given access to Spark!, a collection of self-paced, online workshops covering concepts, skills, and resources that will be helpful as you prepare to start college!
Once you accept your offer of admission, you will receive more information on access to Spark!
