Program Details

If you are eager to start your college experience as soon as possible, apply to join us on Grounds from July 7 to August 8!

Experience what life is like as a college student at UVA! Live in a residence hall with a roommate; eat in the dining halls; and get to know current undergraduates who will reside alongside you, plan group activities, and (perhaps best of all!) share their experiences and perspectives.

Participants will move in on Tuesday, July 7, attend the Hoos Getting Ready Welcome Day on Wednesday, July 8, and participate in UVA Summer Orientation Session B on July 9-10. Move-out is Saturday, August 8.

The heart of this program is the opportunity to take one 3-credit and one 2-credit graded College class during Summer Session III which begins on Monday, July 13 and concludes on Friday, August 7. Both courses will appear on your transcript and factor into your UVA GPA.

Your first class will be selected from a slate of approved 3-credit College summer courses that have been vetted as appropriate for incoming first-year students. Your options will span the full range of departmental offerings. Summer course offerings will be listed shortly.

Your second class is a 2-credit Engagement Course: The Engagements are the highlight of Arts & Sciences General Education. Small, seminar-style courses, the Engagements are different from your typical first-year classes at UVA. They invite you to ask big questions, and to think and talk about what you know and value. Designed and taught by the College Fellows, the Engagements emphasize varied modes of discussion and individual and group projects in an interactive environment.

In addition to these courses, you will attend weekly events, such as workshops and dinners, that will introduce you to representatives from a variety of student services across Grounds.

The College covers ALL COSTS associated with the Hoos Getting Ready Residential Program: tuition and fees, room and board, and course materials (excluding travel to and from the program)!

There are only 70 spots available in this immersive program.
