What To Expect?
1. Peer Mentorship
- Students are assigned a peer mentor (HGR intern) who they will meet with on a weekly basis. These peer mentors are fellow UVA students trained to guide HGR participants as they navigate the transition from high school to college.
2. Social and Community-Building
- Peer mentors (HGR interns) design and facilitate several social activities/events throughout the program for students to build community among their cohort. These activities can include sports, crafts, visiting The Corner, touring campus, movie nights, and more.
- Students will also participate in larger program events such as weekly dinners and workshops.
3. Earn up to 5 credit hours. Students will enroll in the following courses:
- EGMT (Engagements) - 2 credit course
- Summer Course Offerings to come - 3 credit course
4. Study Hall & Success Workshops
- To further assist in the transition from high school to college, HGR requires students to attend study hours throughout the week.
- Students will also attend 1-2 success workshops each week held on Tuesday and/or Thursday afternoons. These workshops will either focus on a campus resource, provide academic, personal, or professional development.
5. Live On Grounds
- HGR students will live in a dorm on Grounds for the entirety of the summer program.
- Students will have access to all available UVA resources (Recreation Center, Dining Halls, Student Health & Wellness, Career Center, Libraries, etc.).
